It’s rumored that Garis was an officer in the Confederacy during the Civil War. The story goes that he was a Platoon Field Commander of CSA’s mechanized division that utilized many of the new ‘mad science’ gizmos. He seemed adept with these infernal devices and this fueled is his blood thirst. He was well on his way to making Colonel when he caught a bullet in the eye. Some stories even say that the Confederate surgeons pronounced him dead for nearly an hour before he just woke up and walked out of the morgue tent to get back on the battlefield. Afterwards, the South relieved him of his commission with valor because of the wound. As luck would have it Hellstromme was providing a weapons demonstration, and it was said that Dr. Hellstromme hand selected at the time Lt. Garis to lead a stream team of Wasatch Railroad’s X-Squad.
What is know is Hellstromme Industries fitted him with a mechanical monocle to replace the eye he loss in the war. He also has an understanding of tactics 20 years ahead of most men. And while he is not a Mad Scientist by any means, his understanding of new technology and mad science gizmos rivals novice scientists and engineers.
