Samuel grew up near a small border town called Serria Vista in Arizona. The son of a ex-Confederate soldier turned farmer and the prostitute he knocked up with Sam’s elder brother Jack. He lived a life no harder than anyone else in on a small ranch that bordered a favorite mountain pass for outlaws to escape justice down to Mexico. The boy fell into the wrong crowd and seemed destined to become a desperado until he met Maria with Daughter of the Padre’s sister.
The two quickly fell in love and even were to be married. Until an unfortunate altercation with some scoundrels making their way back out Mexico. The banditos were in town to pick up supplies for the rest of their gang but had been on the trail and laying low too long, and Maria was too pretty a woman for them to leave her be. Sam gunned down one of the men in the street and wounded another. However, this was just the excuse the town marshal needed to invite him to a neck tie party.
Sam tried to convince Marie to flee with him to make a new life, but she refused. He didn’t get far before the remaining four members of the gang came across who chased him for days. nearly out of bullets and water Sam was captured by the bandits who beat him, drug him behind their horses by rope and cut his face with their spurs leaving him for dead.
Sam stumbled across an old prospector hermit who nursed him back to health. The prospector was named Coot Jenkins. He gave the boy some new clothes and returned Sam’s sole possession, his single action revolver “volcano.”
Sam hopes to return to Marie but can’t yet bring himself to do so. Until then, he wanderers the West as a hired gun.
His Worst Nightmare:
He returns to Sierra Vista to learn that Marie is has been died shortly after he fled. At first he thinks it was the banditos getting their revenge through her, but soon learns in fact it was by his own hand.
