Secret Scrolls of Chi Mastery

This is a list of the Powers for characters with the Edge Arcane Background: Chi Mastery. Many of the powers attempt to have the same feel as those from the Deadlands Classic Martial Artists from The Great Maze boxed set.

A

Abundance of Pecking Birds (Bolt): This power must be used in conjunction with a archaic ranged weapon (bow, shuriken, throwing knife, etc.). It does not work with guns, dynamite, or similar weapons. The power allows the Martial Artist fire 1 to 3 attacks that cause 2d6. Each attack cost 1 Power Point. Novice Power; Power Points: 1-3, Range: 12/24/48 Duration: Instant

B

Blood of Gold (Healing): This Power allows the Martial Artist to use their Chi to accelerate their body’s natural healing ability. This power can only be used on the Martial Artist and costs 2 Power Points per use. Otherwise it works like the Healing Power. Novice Power; Power Points: 2 Range: Self Duration: Instant

Cobra Strike: This power gives the Martial Artist +1 to Fighting and Damage for every round they go On Hold up to Rank (at Legendary +5). Mar tail Artist automatically wins to interrupt another character with this power. The Power is reset if and Joker is drawn. The Martial Artist cannot do anything more than move at half Pace. Novice Power; Power Points: 2; Range: Self; Duration: Special
Closing the Gate: This works like the Succor Power. Novice Power; Power Points: 1; Range: Touch; Duration: Instant
Crane Guides the Arrow (Aim): This power can only be used in conjunction with thrown weapon or bow. It can’t be used with a gun, hex, or any other kind of weird nonsense. The Power only effects the Martial Artiest but otherwise works like the Aim Power. Novice Power; Power Points: 1; range: Self; Duration: 3 (1/round)
Crumbling Dam: This Power targets the Power Points of other Arcane Background that use them. The Martial Artist makes an Fighting roll if they hit, they make Crumbling Dam skill roll. The target loses the same number of Power Points as the skill roll. Seasoned Power; Power Points: 4; Range: Touch; Duration: Instant

Devastating Ape Strike: This power transfers Chi into damage. It only works with unarmed attacks but causes Strength + Devastating Ape Strike Skill damage. Seasoned Power; Power Point: 5; Range: Self; Duration: Instant
Diamond Skin (Armor): This power causes the Martial Artist’s skin to be come as hard as diamonds. Works like the Armor Power save it works only on the Martial Artist. Novice Power; Power Points: 1; Range: Self; Duration: 3 (1/round)

Earth’s Rotation (Burrow): The Martial Artist spins like a top digging into the ground. Otherwise is works like the Burrow Power._ Novice Power; Power Points: 2; Range: Self; Duration: 3 (2/round)_

F

Fangs of the Serpent: This Power steals the Power Points of other Arcane Background that use them. The Martial Artist makes an Fighting roll if they hit, they do no damage but make Fangs of the Serpent skill roll. The target has the same number of Power Points as the half skill roll to stolen by the Martial Artist. Seasoned Power; Power Points: 4; Range: Touch; Duration: Instant
Flying Claw: This power allows your hero to use the flying claw to its full potential. The flying claw is a metal claw on the end of a long chain. It can be used as a normal melee weapon against opponents within 10’, or if the Activation Cost is paid, it can be propelled through the air at an opponent.
Fury Fans the Flame (Blast): It causes the Martial Artist to become flurry of fists and feet that causes damage to all targets within a Medium/Large Burst Template as per the Blast Power. Seasoned Power; Power Points: 2-6; Range: 0; Duration: Instant

Hell’s Thunderclap (Boost/Lower Trait): Instead of causing damage, the Martial Artist flattens their palms and claps them over their opponent’s ears. Not only does this set up a ringing in the opponent’s ears, but it temporarily severs them from a connection to their ancestors, the source of their prosperity and good fortune. The power is opposed by the Target’s Parry score. If successful, the Target suffers 1 one die step to any Trait of the Martial Artist’s choosing (all Traits with a Raise). If the Martial Artist can get two or more Raises, the target suffers a 2 die step decrease. Worst yet, on rare occasions, this technique has been known to curse victims that don’t honor their ancestors permanently. Novice Power; Power Points: 2; Range: Touch; Duration: 3 (1/round)/Special

J

Jade King s Stance: By striking the ancient and mystic pose of the Jade King, the Martial Artist can intimidate their enemies and make it difficult to for them to attack them. This even applies who don’t know the Jade King is. While this power is active, any enemies within Large Burst Template who wish to attack your hero must make a Spirit roll. If the roll is failed, the assailant(s) are overcome by the Martial Artist’s majesty and cannot attack. If the roll succeeds, they can attack but suffer -2 to do so. The character can speak and use other powers which do not require him to move while the Jade King’s stance, but if he alters his pose in any way, the power is immediately canceled. This includes using their Parry. While the power is active, your hero may spend an action to make Test of Wills attempts. Seasoned Power; Power Points: 3; Range: Self; Duration: 3 (1/round)

L

Leopard and Her Cubs: This power allows the Martial Artist to share their Chi based powers with allies. The Martial Artist harmonizes their Chi is a field that surrounds any target of their choosing in a Large Burst Template. All targets may use any of the powers of that the Martial Artist has. However, all Powers uses in this way are paid for from the Martial Artist’s Power Points. Power’s that steal Power Points (such as Fangs of the Serpent) are returned back to the Martial Artist.

M

Mantis Pinch (Boost/Lower Trait): This technique hits critical nerve junctions and impairs the flow of Chi energies in the opponent’s body. By choosing which nerve junctions to hit, the Martial Artist can decide which of their opponent’s Traits to temporarily reduce. This works like the Lowering portion of the Boost/Lower Trait power. Novice Power; Power Points: 1; Range: Touch; Duration: 3 (1/round)
Many Arms of the Spider: This Power allows the Martial Artist to engage in any and all opponents at the same time without lowering their defenses. The opponents of the Martial Artist gain no benefit from Gang Up. On a Raise, the Martial Artist gains a +1 Parry as well. Novice Power; Power Points: 2; Range: Self; Duration: 3 (1/round)
